Toby

Thank you for visiting Heirloom Mastiffs a small family of English Mastiffs. In 1981 I was introduced to my first mastiff. A gentle boy by the name of Titan and was hooked immediately. I acquired my first mastiff shortly thereafter she was my lovely Tigress. I purchased her from a backyard breeder. Her pedigree unknown but she left an impression on me that will be everlasting. I swore after losing her I would not have that breed again. Mastiffs have a way of stealing your heart and leaving a hole in it when they are gone. Little did I know that in June of 2002 one of my co-workers would start a chain of events that would change my life and home forever. Please join me on the adventure that has given birth to Heirloom Mastiffs.

During the early part of the Summer of 2002 one of the guys I work with told me that I really needed to check out a website. Russ knew that I had a mastiff a long time ago. Her picture is at my desk. He said that this website was a pretty good one about a litter of mastiff puppies that had recently been whelped. That litter was from another small kennel in Central California by the name of Comstock Mastiffs http://members.aol.com/ComstockPups/index.htm Working for an internet based company we were always checking out websites. This one impressed me seeing as it was home grown and the pups were nice too. For many weeks I would visit the site and watch the puppies grow. My eyes were always drawn to a big boned fawn girl. Something about her kept me coming back. Finally I sent the Tobin's an email just to tell them that I thought they were doing a great job with their website and that I thought their puppies were very nice. Caroline informed me that she still had pups available. I on the other hand was not going down that road again. In October of 2002 Yellow, AKA Sunshine, AKA Buttercup was still available and I was caught. Hook, Line and Sinker. I spoke with Caroline on the phone several times and a home visit was done by Marilyn who lives about 1 1/2 hours from me. The Following week Buttercup was on her way home with me and was aptly named Comstock Calli's Tiger Lily. Calli for her Mom and Tiger in memory of Tigress. During one of our phone conversations Caroline had asked me to consider letting Lily be shown. She felt that she had all the makings of a great show dog. Caroline informed me that I would only have to take care of the entry fees and she or Marilyn would handle Lily. Lily's show career started in January 2003 with limited showing. Having never shown dogs before and with Lily being a big girl it was better to leave her to experienced hands. The joke was I couldn't show her. Thus the addition of MGM's To Be My Funny Valentine. Toby was whelped on Valentines day and I was there to help Marilyn with her litter. I wanted to give this dog show stuff a try and since I wasn't going to get my hands on Lily Toby and I were going to learn the ropes together. Toby's show career ended in late 2004. He does not enjoy being in the ring and is currently enjoying life at home as a well loved pet.

In January of 2004 Caroline asked if I would mind entering Lily in an International show to obtain an International championship and she would let me show Lily if I thought I was up to it. This was my test. Lily and I managed to beat her brother Lucah in the day 1 show and take a group 2. Not bad for a novice. Since that show I have shown Lily to her Championship on July 4th 2004. In addition I have specialed her to a top 10 placement for Best Of Opposite Sex nationally. But I couldn't have done it without the help and assistance I received from my mentor or without such a top quality mastiff.

UPDATE: Lily was nationally ranked as the #8 Mastiff Bitch for Best of Opposite Sex in 2004

Breeding Update: 6/8/06  It is with sadness that I announce that Lily' spent her 4th birthday having an emergency spay performed. Lily suffered a closed pyometria and for me the decision was a easy one. I chose to have her spayed. To all that have inquired about a Lily puppy my thanks.
